Title of the practice :
Mentor meets at quest with mentee
Objectives of the practice:
- To enable the learner to learn in a focused manner
- To make the learner more confident in learning
- Identifying their weak areas
- Focusing on the weak areas and planning the concept in student centric methods.
- To explore the community of the mentee.
- To know the living conditions of the mentee students.
- To inculcate the family bondage with the parents and staff at quest .
- To give awareness about the institutional activities and drop the rate of early marriages during quest.
The context :
The mentor –mentee programme is successfully practiced in our gurukulam society institutions .The residential system consists of house parents from our faculty. The faculty are allocated with a set of class students to take care of them .The mentor teacher further focus on their well being and also their physical and mental health .They also focus on their learning abilities and problems and further counsels them to cope with the academics .Every Friday the mentor teacher conducts dear time meeting with the wards to discuss on the issues of the house and they are resolved .They also inform the parents about their performance and health.
These mentor teachers also visit the mentees i.e., the students at their residences in the village in the name of quest programme. This quest programme enables the mentor to explore the community of the mentee. The mentor interacts with the mentee’s parents and siblings and tries to know the swocs of the student at the home and her interests. The mentor also explains the parents about the programmes in the gurukulam.
Evidence of success:
- The individual problems of the students are identified and resolved by the mentor teachers.
- The slow achievers data has been captured in the registers and remedial action has been taken.
- The depressed students are also identified and counseled by the mentor teachers .
- At quest programme the parents interact about the student with the mentor teacher and further gives more scope to know more about them.
- The quest programme enable the mentor teacher to have more rapport with the parents to involve themselves in exploring the problems like early marriages ,dowry system etc.
- The mentor teachers counsel the parents and mentees towards growth mindset and overcome the problems and coping with stress.
Problems encountered and resources required:
- More number of mentees to single mentor
- Problems at initial stage for adjustment in new campus
- Hesitation in expressing issues
- Resoved through proper strategies.
- At quest programme initatilly the mentor teachers were not welcomed due to fear and hesitation and their poor background and living conditions.
- Problems with the native language of the parents and support of students to understand and solve certain issues at the community level.
- More admissions and problems resolution through parent involvement
Best practice 2:
Title of the practice:
master students life skills –transformation as vlcs
Objectives of the practice:
- To make students competent and confident in Teaching
- To prepare the students to face the smart class before camera.
- Preparing students with life skills
- Students adopting rural children for Village learning centres.
- Imparting knowledge to the rural children in vacation .
The context :
Every year the institution prepares students by screening them at institutional level .This programme is organized every year by the Gurukulam society .The students are screened at institutional level by allotting a mentor teacher .The students present the topic with a planned time slot and PPT .The panel members are allocated to this screening and they finalize the students and the selected students are sent to state level screening where in they compete with students from various institutions .The final selected candidates will be provided with MANA TV presentations .The students teach live session via MANA Tv satellite programme.The individuals receive cash prize also.
These students are trained in life skills in the first and second years by under going training in life skills training camp each year. The students in this life skill training are trained in life skills and are exposed to practical in local schools to teach the content to the govt school children. This is the best practice observed in the institution with a good output.
These students further teach the school children in their communities at the thanda by naming them as village learning centres. These village learning centres worked rigorously in covid and also in vacations.
