Field Trip
Date: 10/09/2024
Time: 2pm to 5 pm
Group: B.Com (CA) III Year
The Department of commerce has organized a Field trip for B.Com (CA) III year students. Students were taken to More Supermarket located at Jangaon city. The tour began with an introduction to the store's layout, showing the students how different sections — from fresh produce to dairy, meats, and household products — are organized. The manager explained how products are stocked, how inventory is managed, and how stores make decisions about which items to sell.
The students were particularly intrigued by the logistics of how goods get from warehouses to shelves, and how supermarkets decide what products to feature prominently. It was a real-world application of what they'd been learning about supply chains, marketing, inventory management and business management in their classrooms.
As part of the field trip, the students were divided into small teams and given a specific budget to work with. Their mission was to create a shopping list that covered all the necessary items for a week’s worth of groceries, while staying within the allotted budget. Each team was equipped with calculators and a sheet listing the prices of various products throughout the store.
Working together, the students carefully examined the prices, taking note of any discounts or promotions. They compared different brands, sizes, and quantities to find the best value for their money. The teams quickly realized that the key to staying within budget wasn’t just picking the cheapest items, but making smart choices about which products to prioritize and where to find the best deals.
By analyzing price tags and promotions, students learned how pricing strategies such as "buy one, get one free" or bulk discounts can influence shopping behavior. The exercise provided a tangible way to understand the concept of value for money, something that is highly relevant in everyday life.
In the end, the trip to the supermarket proved to be both fun and educational. It gave the students an interactive way to learn about budgeting, nutrition, and the inner workings of a business. More importantly, it helped them make the connection between what they learn in the classroom and how they can apply that knowledge in their daily lives.
