ENGLISH LANGUAGE DAY
On April 23rd, on the occasion of English language day was celebrated every year by the Department of English.
As a part of that program various activities were conducted including Recitation of poems, singing , creating
awareness on parts of speech, skit performance etc…
The main intention behind this program is to create awareness on the role of English language across the world in
modern society. English has gained global importance in the course of time. It became the first language in most
of the countries and hence there is a necessity of learning English Language to survive in this modern world. This
necessity created the urge to celebrate English Language Day by spreading the importance of English Language
across the world and also to commemorate the contributions of Shakespeare to the modern English literature.
INAUGURATION OF ENGLISH LAB
On the occasion of English Language Day, English Lab was inaugurated by the Principal, Sri K. Rajani madam.
This lab is meant for development of basic communication skills and also required life skills in students through
audio and video lectures and also by providing numerous resources. Language lab helps an individual to learn a
language with a much wider variety of activities and exercises based on the computer. Learning occurs in a structured way,
in a real context and visually attractive way that immerses the student in the language learning environment and promotes
language use.
STUDENT SEMINARS
As a part of curricular activities, students participated in seminars which were part of their prescribed textbook. Students
explained the topics in their own way and expressed their views. By this activity the presentation skills of the students are
put to test. The purpose of seminar is to improve their knowledge and understanding of a topic by engaging with key issues
participation is therefore necessary and successful participation involves preparation. Seminars also enable the students to
evaluate, stay up to date on current events, comprehend concepts and build their network.
ORIENTATION PROGRAM ON EEE’S IN ENGLISH {EDUCATION, EMPLOYABILITY,
ENTREPRENEURSHIP}
An orientation program was conducted for all the final year students creating awareness on EEE’s on English. The session
was delivered by Dr Adi Ramesh Babu, Head and Assistant professor, Department of English, Govt. City College,
Hyderabad.
Faculty Development Programme
The Department of English had conducted an FDP on Report writing for all the faculty in our institution. In this session we
explained types of Reports and how to write a report, which is useful to maintain Documental proof of every activity.
Faculty was very enthusiastic to learn more about this session. Report writing is most common Procedure involved in each
activity conducted at college level. It is necessary for proper documentation of all the events. Hence this session enhances
the writing skills and mainly targeted to documentation skills.
PPT Presentation By students
In order to enhance presentation skills of the students PowerPoint presentations were organized for the students. The
PowerPoint presentations consisted of various topics covered during their academic year. Power point presentations helps
students to understand that particular topic in a better way.These presentation helps the students to enhance learning by
providing a better understanding and comprehension of the subjectsas well as by providing different methods or ways of
understanding within the same slide.
Conversation on Current Topics
As part of curricular activities conversation activities were held among students. In this activity students divided as a pair
and each pair was given a latest issue and was asked to have a conversation on that issue. Students active participation is
very important to improve conversation skills. This activity helps the students to improve fluency and build connection.
Topics can include hobbies, movies, travel, food, books and music. These discussions were not only enjoyable but also
provide opportunities for language practice.
JAM (Just A Minute) Session
JAM sessions were conducted for the students to enhance the communication skills and interview skills. During these
sessions each student was given a topic and was asked to speak on that topic for one minute. The main purpose of these
sessions is to increase word power in students. It also leads the students to increase their ability of spontaneous speech
without any preparation or notes. These sessions also help the students to improve their presentation skills.
E+ Club
Apart from all the curricular and extra curricular activities, E+ club is conducted twice a week on Tuesday and Friday
without any deviation. Various activities are included in the E+ club which are meant for development of communication
skills and leadership skills and by ensuring all round development in them regarding the English language. .
As a part of E+ club, wide range of activities were conducted including word puzzles, word grids, role plays, JAM Sessions,
Conversion on given topics, news paper reading, word anthyakshari with parts of Speech etc. Each activity is designed in
such a way that targets the student performance improvement and language barriers.
