DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

COURSE - OUTCOMES

ANIMAL DIVERSITY AND INVERTEBRATES

* Students will understand the concept of lower level and higher level organisms briefly

* The course provide wide knowledge about protozoans, and metazoans.

* Ability to understand the concept of different diseases related to protozoans

* Ability to understand concepts of canal systems in sponges

* Students gain knowledge on the concept of cellular to tissue level to organ level gradation

* They will understand the concept of diploblastic and triploblastic organisms

* Students will understand the concept of different physiological activities like canal system in sponges, coelom types, Haemocoelomic system in leeches, tracheal respiration in insects, pearl formation in Molluscans and water vascular system in echinoderms

* Imparts knowledge regarding the various invertebrate species and their special features and characters.

* Describe invertebrate adaptations, interactions and their relation to environment.

* Students get the depth knowledge on the diversity of invertebrates and their systematic position and they know the economic importance of some invertebrate classes.

* Imparts conceptual knowledge of invertebrate adaptations in relation to their environment.

 

ANIMAL DIVERSITY AND VERTEBRATES

*  Students will classify phylum protochordates to Mammalia

* The course provide wide knowledge about fishes, amphibians, Reptiles Aves and mammals.

* Ability to understand concepts of flight adaptation and migration in Birds and Dentition and aquatic adaptations in mammals.

* Student gains  knowledge about  characters of poisonous and non poisonous

* Snakes and use their real life situations.

* Imparts knowledge regarding the various vertebrate species and their special features and characters.

* Describe vertebrate adaptations, interactions and their relation to environment.

* Students get the depth knowledge on the diversity of vertebrates and their systematic position and they know the economic importance of some chordate classes.

* Imparts conceptual knowledge of vertebrate adaptations in relation to their environment.

 

ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY AND ETHOLOGY

* Students will understand the concept of Physiological systems of human and animal behaviour according to its environment

* The course provide wide knowledge about digestion and different enzymes involved in digestion and mechanism of respiration and cellular respiration

* The course provide wide knowledge about excretion by nephrons and structure of kidney and mechanism involved in muscle contraction by sliding filament theory

* The course provide wide knowledge about neural co-ordinations and synapse and synaptic transmissions and how they control other organs by releasing hormones from endocrine glands

* They will understand the concept of different physiological activities that are controlled by hormones in different mechanisms inside the body

* Students will understand the concept of different animals and their behaviors related to environment and they will learn imprinting, trial and error learning, classical conditioning, habituation and etc.

* Students gain knowledge on the concept of insects and their communication by pheromones and their social life briefly

*Imparts conceptual knowledge of physiological activities and animal behaviour.

 

CELL-BIOLOGY,MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS

* Students will understand the concept of  Cell biology and Genetics

* The course provide wide knowledge about cell structure in molecular level and their functions

* They will understand the plasma membrane and different types of cell organelles and nucleus.

* The course provide wide knowledge about plasma membrane structure, nucleus and its components, DNA, RNA, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes

* They will understand protein synthesis briefly

* They will understand structure of DNA and RNA and nucleotides, purines and pyrimidines etc.

They will understand genetic code and types of RNA involved in protein synthesis

* They will understand what is gene and its functions and how a gene controls different heriditical characters

* They will understand mono-hybrid cross, di-hybrid cross, Mendel laws and Non-Mendelian laws

* They will understand Epistasis, Co-dominance, and Incomplete dominance etc.

 

IMMUNOLOGY AND BIO-TECHNOLOGY

* Students will understand the concept of Immune system and animal bio-technology briefly

* The course provide wide knowledge about immunology, and bio-technology

* Ability to understand the concept of different diseases and defense mechanisms in our body

* Ability to understand concepts of different immune cells and their destruction involving different micro organisms

* Students gain knowledge on the concept of immune system and they understand different mechanisms involved in hypersensitivity, auto immune diseases etc.

* They will understand the concept of white blood cells and their types

* Students will understand the concept of different physiological activities like opsonisation, phagocytosis, precipitation reactions

* Imparts knowledge regarding the various organ transplantation and rejection by MHC

* Students get the depth knowledge on Immune system

* Students will understand the different techniques involved on animals and plants

* Students will understand the hybrid varieties, animal clones.

* They will understand the concept of transgenic animals and their uses

* They will understand the concept of IVF and embryo transfer mechanisms

* Imparts conceptual knowledge of immune system and animal bio-technology.

 

ECOLOGY,ZOO-GEOGRAPHY AND EVOLUTION

* Allow the students to gain knowledge about

* Ecosystem and their types and population dynamics and growth curves.

* Understanding of energy flow in ecosystem and food chain, food web , ecological pyramids and animal associations.

* Identifies the ecological adaptations and environmental pollution-sources effect and control measures  of pollution.

* Students know about the wildlife conservation and endangered species.

* Student learn about evolution theories species evolution speciation Isolation.

* Student gains knowledge about forces of evolution.

* Understands about evidences of evolution.

* Students feel confident teaching in evolution as well as executing research of human evolution.

* With the study of  zoogeography students gain knowledge in the areas of zoogeographical regions and their climatic and faunal peculiarities.

* Students get good insight into discontinuous distribution & continental  drift and Wallace line.

* Student gains knowledge regarding biodiversity and hotspots in India.
